Yoga Therapy in Alresford and Winchester

Using the mind-body connection to explore solutions to mental and physical health conditions.

Yoga therapy empowers us to take charge of our health and wellbeing using movement, mindfulness, breathing practices, relaxation and self-inquiry. Supported by a wealth of scientific research, yoga aligns with the holistic perspective of a person as an intricate system composed of interconnected parts. By harmonising the various dimensions of human existence—body, mind, and emotion—we can promote health, enrich our lived experiences and infuse life with deeper meaning and purpose.

The Practice

During a yoga therapy session we will create a practice together that focuses on your individual needs and goals. Every session is unique; there may be movement to reconnect with the body, mindfulness practices to improve brain health, breath work to build a more resilient nervous system, relaxation to reduce the effects of stress or the exploration of healthy lifestyle options.

The Benefits

Yoga therapy has the power to transform your life. It can help reduce pain in the body and improve strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, posture and circulation. It has the potential to improve psychological wellbeing for everyone including those with mental health conditions. Yoga is proven to reduce stress, which in turn enhances resilience, improves self-regulation skills and restores equilibrium. Exciting new evidence also suggests Yoga Therapy may slow the effects of ageing helping to maintain health as we age.

How I work

I trained as a yoga therapist with the Minded Institute, London, and am registered with the NCIP and CNHC. I have been practising yoga and mindfulness for over thirty years and attend regular psychodynamic therapy sessions. I bring a wealth of experience but I believe you are the expert on you and have all the resources within yourself to heal. Change can be difficult but yoga therapy offers many practices to help compassionately support you through this process.

1-1 classes are beneficial as a way to address specific physical, mental or emotional health conditions.

Yoga Therapy allows us to work together to co-create a therapeutic plan using yoga principles to help you achieve your health and wellness goals. These sessions may include yoga philosophy, yoga asana (movement), pranayama (breathwork), mindfulness and relaxation techniques.

TVK Desikachar:

“Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process, where the care-seeker, with the help of the Yoga therapist, implements a personalised and evolving Yoga practice, that not only addresses the illness in a multi-dimensional manner, but also aims to alleviate his/her suffering in a progressive, non-invasive and complementary manner.  Depending upon the nature of the illness, Yoga therapy can not only be preventative or curative, but also serve a means to manage the illness, or facilitate healing in the person at all levels.”
